Love Pop Choir - All Choirs
Christmas Concert With The Harrogate Band 2024
19th December 2024

What a magical evening we had performing with the Harrogate Brass Band at St Aiden's School, Harrogate.

Following last year’s success with our Harrogate choir joining forces with the Harrogate Band, we were inspired  to dream bigger and this year we found a larger venue to welcome more than 75 of our fabulous ladies for an unforgettable evening of music and fun.

With her husband playing in the band, it was Harrogate's talented choir member Libby' who came up with the original idea for the collaboration and now the annual event is a firm favourite with both the Harrogate Band and Love Pop Choir.

As we waited excitedly for our performance to begin we were delighted to see a very large audience filing into Constance Green Hall, with family, friends and the general public filling the seats, all keen to enjoy a wonderful festive evening.

Finally it was time to get started with a joint performance of Christmas Classic Sleigh Ride setting the tone for a fun and lively evening.

Choir Director Lauren and Band Leader Craig did an amazing job of introducing the songs and giving a little background to the audience. Whilst Lauren also took on the role of dance instructor for The Twelve Days of Christmas, Craig's witty banter kept the audience laughing. Lauren also had the pleasure of conducting the band and choir for some of the joint numbers, a fantastic but rather nerve racking experience.

Creating a very special moment Craig introduced us all to some new young talent from their project to introduce primary school children to playing brass instruments. A wonderful project run jointly with other brass bands and local schools to get more young people playing brass instruments. The children gave a truly inspirational  performance which everyone loved.

Joint numbers were interspersed with Christmas favourites and sing along pop hits from Love Pop Choir and the classic sounds of Christmas brass from The Harrogate Band giving the packed audience a fabulous selection of festive entertainment.

The first half ended with the rousing joint number Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree before we all headed of for a refreshment break.

Love Pop Choir kicked off the second half with pop hit Christmas Baby Please Come Home, which caused a lively debate about the number of times our ladies sing the word 'Christmas' in the song, answers ranged from 21 to 25. I will leave you to check the lyrics out for yourself online. 😃 This was followed by the beautifully mellow Christmas classic Let It Snow before joining the band for a stunning joint performance of Candlelight Carol.

More wonderful Christmas brass as the band delighted the audience with a festival of Christmas tunes before our choir performed our favourite song Hallelujah.

Time to get the audience going then as we ramped up the fun with a selection of crowd pleasers for the audience to join in. The choir's ever popular Fairytale of New York started the section off followed by three joint numbers. Ed Sheeran and Elton John pop hit Merry Christmas raised the Christmas spirit, before the fantastic audience participation song, The Twelve Days of Christmas had everyone on their feet singing along and joining in the actions, what a great sight for us to see so many people joining in with us. We all expected the concert to end with the band and the choir singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas to the audience, but the band had other ideas!

One hilarious final number from the band had the whole room in stitches as we were directed to sway to the left or right with a quick stand up sit down every few bars.

What a fabulous end to a truly fantastic evening. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
